Uptown & Boogie Healthy Project Seeks Nonprofit Board Members in New York City

Uptown & Boogie Healthy Project (UBHP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Harlem and the Bronx, New York City. Our mission is to build equitable food systems and workforce pathways in our communities — connecting over 1,000 families weekly to fresh, affordable produce while training young adults for careers in agribusiness, urban agriculture, and food systems technology.
We are rebuilding our board of directors and actively recruiting four dedicated board members to help govern, guide, and grow this organization at a pivotal moment in its history.

We are currently recruiting for the following nonprofit board positions:

  • Board President — Lead board governance, chair quarterly meetings, and partner with the Executive Director on organizational strategy and long-term vision
  • Treasurer — Oversee financial health, budgeting, audit processes, and fiscal accountability for the organization
  • General Board Member (x2) — Contribute expertise in legal, agriculture, technology, workforce development, or community leadership to support UBHP's programs and growth

Who We Are Looking For

We seek board candidates with professional experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Finance & Accounting — nonprofit financial management, budgeting, or audit oversight
  • Legal — nonprofit law, contracts, employment law, or regulatory compliance
  • Agriculture & Food Systems — urban agriculture, food policy, agribusiness, or supply chain
  • Technology & Workforce Development — workforce programs, education technology, or food systems innovation

What Board Service Involves

Serving on the UBHP board is an active, meaningful commitment. Board members:

  • Attend quarterly board meetings per our organizational bylaws
  • Provide fiduciary oversight and governance support across finance, operations, and organizational strategy
  • Support the development of funding relationships, strategic partnerships, and community connections
  • Contribute their expertise to strengthen UBHP's programs, workforce development initiatives, and long-term sustainability
  • Help recruit additional board members and organizational supporters

Why This Moment Matters

UBHP is at a defining point in its growth. Since 2021, we have built farmers markets, a CSA program, a community greenhouse at the St. Nicholas Miracle Garden in Central Harlem, youth programming, and workforce development initiatives serving Harlem and Bronx communities. We are now expanding our career readiness programming for young adults, transitioning organizational leadership, and building the infrastructure to grow beyond our founding chapter.

The board members we recruit today will directly shape the impact UBHP sustains in Harlem and the Bronx for years to come.
